In a village in South Sulawesi, livestock vanished, children disappeared, and fear reigned. A hunched old woman arrived; villagers took her in, yet each household she stayed in lost a life by morning. A young man hid and watched as the frail figure transformed into Nenek Pakande—a monster with rows of razor-sharp teeth and insatiable hunger. The king offered a reward, and the young man chose not a sword but a plan: a deep pit covered with bamboo slats and baited with a feast. Nenek Pakande fell for the trap and plunged into the abyss. Terror ended, and peace returned. The tale teaches: against seemingly invincible evil, wisdom and courage can be sharper than any sword.
